# Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until incorporated.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until a soft dough forms.
- Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out mermaid tail shapes using a cookie cutter.
- Arrange cookies on prepared baking sheets and bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until edges turn lightly golden. Transfer to a wire rack and cool completely.
- Beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually incorporate powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract, continuing to beat until fluffy.
- Divide the frosting into 3 to 4 bowls and tint each portion with different gel food colorings.
- Using piping bags fitted with star or petal tips, pipe the colored buttercream onto cooled cookies to depict mermaid tails.
- Dust decorated cookies with edible shimmer and embellish with candy pearls or sprinkles as desired.
